We have just hosted the Pinelands Tennis Club on their annual tour. A lot of good tennis
was played but as a match it ended up as a no contest with Pinelands beating us very convincingly. The tennis followed by the braai was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants. Pinelands have promised to include us on their 30th tour next year and have said on numerous occasions that Plett is the highlight of the tour.
Our Ladies have been keeping our flag flying. With a few of our Ladies being very successful in tournaments around the country. The Nationals were held in Bloemfontein where all the top players from around the country compete in various age group categories. We had Monica Neethling and Debbie Hyde competing. Monica achieved a 10th place in the singles, 3rd in mixed doubles and 4th in doubles in her group and Debbie achieving 4th in singles, 3rd in double and a very commendable runner up award in mixed in her group. These are outstanding achievements, congratulations to both of them. More recently, Jane Schulz and Liesel Fosbrook travelled to Cape Town and played in the Western Province Open. This was a seniors ranking points tournament so once again did attract top players from all provinces seeking ranking points. Jane ended with a 3rd spot in the ladies doubles and 5th in singles, while Liesel got a 3rd spot in mixed doubles. These again are very commendable results against the toughest opposition in the country. Well done to them both.
In a 50 to 55 age group Inter-Pro recently competed, Eden Tennis achieved an amazing runner up position in the ‘A’ group. They competed against the top provinces in the country and came out with a fantastic result. Debbie was a member of this side, we are again proud of her achievement.
To end the competition side of tennis in this issue on a really high note, we are extremely proud to announce that Debbie has been selected to Captain the 50 Plus age Group South African side who will be competing in the ITF World Seniors Championships being held in Finland in June. Congratulations Debbie, we wish you the best of luck and hope the trip is going to be very successful and most enjoyable.
