News from the Bowls Section (Apr 2016)

At last we have our mower back in service and the playing surface of the North Green is very good.  Hopefully within the next week or two the South Green will also be in use.  The March rains were very welcome and both greens are looking much better for it.

Competition Results

Seahorse – 1st Sue Shurmer, 2nd Johan Pretorius, 3rd Derek van der Bergh and 4th Carl Louw.  Congratulations and thanks to our sponsors The Med, Ski Boat Club and Clover Cafe.  Total Beacon Isle Trips – 1st joint tie Udo Martinussen and Corrie Nel, 3rd place Sheila Horn.  Well done.  We are now playing the In House competitions – Singles for Men and Ladies. Next month the pairs will be in action.

On the 6th March we had our regular bi- annual Golfers/Bowlers Day which was kindly sponsored by Personal Trust.  The Golfers challenged the bowlers on this occasion but pride was maintained as the bowlers managed to almost make a clean sweep.  As always great fun was had by all on the greens followed by a delicious braai and drinks in our club house.  Thanks to Roger Wright for, once again, manning the braai and cooking the meat to perfection, Karin Mathies and Wolfgang Stephan for running the bar and John Swinley for organising the rinks and bowls – not an easy task I can tell you!  Photos taken by Rob Windsor are included in our round up of news.

Bowls Coaching:  Coaching has commenced again on Friday mornings from 9.30 pm.  Visitors are most welcome – please remember to bring flat soled shoes when you attend coaching, bowls will be provided.  For enquiries please phone Corrie Nel on 044-5334098 or Rob Windsor on 044-5339139.
